Some veterans` organizations, convinced of the benefits of psychedelics to treat PTSD and other mental illnesses, fund trips abroad, where these substances are legal. It is quite common for people to be arrested and charged with possession of mushrooms and other hallucinogenic drugs (including acid). There are two main types of these fees: those relating to possession and those relating to manufacture with intent to supply (i.e. they are sold). There are many species of Gymnopilus,[xiv] but only a few of them are “active”. Not many people have used gyms, so there`s not much information about what the tropics of these mushrooms look like. Physically, most of them are small and yellow-brown. Illinois has three species: G. braendlei, G. validipes and G. luteus.[xv] Marine Corps veteran Justin Wigg suffered from anger problems and other symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, but traditional medicine wasn`t much help. So he traveled to Peru last fall for treatment that isn`t legal in Illinois — at least not yet. But so far, even Chicago has failed to pass laws to decriminalize or legalize psilocybin mushrooms.

And in the rest of the state, the regulation of this drug remains extremely strict. Psilocybin is illegal under state law, which classifies it as a Schedule I controlled substance. Unlike the other “magic mushrooms” on this list, A. muscaria does not contain psilocybin. It has a different “active ingredient” and therefore gives a completely different travel experience. But A. Muscaria (for some reason, few people use its common name) is also much more dangerous than psilocybin mushrooms. Its different biochemistry is seriously toxic if not treated properly. Honey mushrooms are named by their color, not their taste, but they are edible with two restrictions.

First of all, this is another group for which correct identification is crucial, as they have a mortal double. Second, some people have gotten sick from eating honey, perhaps because of unusual sensitivity, so some experts don`t recommend anyone eat honey just to be safe. Illinois has two species, the honey fungus (Armillaria mellea)[ix] and the ringless honey fungus (A. tabescens)[x]. They look very similar. After reading journalist Michael Pollan`s 2018 book on psychedelics, “How to Change Your Mind,” he tried psilocybin mushrooms. From there, sometimes alone, sometimes under the guidance of a therapist, he switched to ayahuasca, the synthetic drugs MDMA and LSD, and even the psychoactive secretions of a desert toad. In the state of Illinois, it is illegal to put alcohol in an open container. Illinois is famous for its morels, a group of delicious, if strange, mushrooms that usually bear fruit in the spring. Instead of the umbrella shape of many mushrooms, morels look more like foxglove on a finger, with the spores released by large pits in the outer surface of the foxglove hat.

The group has some toxic lookalikes, but distinguishing real morels is not difficult. You are more likely to find wild mushrooms in temperate forests, near the base of trees or in cattle fields. Many psilocybin mushrooms like to grow from cow dung and are most common after heavy rains or early autumn. Most likely, MDMA and psilocybin will be legalized first, but only for medical professionals who treat conditions such as PTSD, depression, or substance use disorders. Look for darker, more humid spots near rotten wood, leaf litter or manure for fungus. It is their ideal environment to grow and develop. This would involve decriminalizing psilocybin, the well-known psychedelic compound active in magic mushrooms. With promising results for patients, lawmakers in other states and cities are also considering easing psilocybin restrictions. Some states want to legalize psilocybin treatment for all adult patients, while others want to limit it to veterans or others with PTSD. Other States have formed working groups to investigate the problem. While psilocybin remains a banned drug by the state, Solomon and other legalization advocates say they are confident U.S.

law enforcement will take the same approach as in states that have legalized marijuana. Five months ago, she told lawmakers in Washington, D.C., who are considering a bill that would legalize the use of psilocybin, that her trips to Jamaica “saved my life.” The meadow fungus [iii] is a widespread species very similar to the domesticated white mushrooms bud, crimini and portobello (all of which are different age groups and varieties of the same species, A. bisporus[iv]). Like them, it`s good to eat, if only in moderation – and be especially careful with specimens growing near roads or other sources of chemical pollution, as they could be contaminated. In 2020, Oregon voters approved an election measure that puts the state on the path to a regulatory and licensing framework that will allow patients to take psilocybin under supervision starting in 2023.
